Silver & Pearl Earrings - Composition IV

Composition IV brings three graduated freshwater pearls into a precise arrangement of perpendicular sterling-silver bars. An alternative everyday pearl stud, it explores balance and proportion through the space between the pearls and their relationship to the silver line.

• Materials: Nickel-free, recycled .925 sterling silver and freshwater pearls.
• Pearls: Freshwater pearls from China, hand-picked by Kevin Hailiang Yu. The three pearls are graduated in size and each composition varies naturally in colour and shape.
• Configuration: Sold as a pair of post earrings with sterling-silver butterfly backs.
• Dimensions and weight: 24 mm wide × 15 mm high × 10 mm deep; approximately 2.8 g each.

Design & Making

Handmade in the Auckland studio.

Composition begins with an exercise in dots, lines, and surfaces. Here, three pearls become a small field of proportion and negative space, held by precise silver lines.
